Most oral disease is treatable but treatment requires time, money, and possible anxiety or discomfort. We advise a robust preventive program to combat oral disease from the following:
- Cavities- holes in teeth caused by the acidic environment when plaque accumulates.
- Gum disease- bleeding gumes, loosened teeth, foul breath.
- Bruxing, or grinding of the teeth, is very common and very destructive. The general public is aware of cavities and gum disease; they seek attention for them, but often ignore the habitual nighttime grinding. A simple nighttime guard can prevent the damage caused by this habit.
Fluoride Varnish
Fluoride Varnish is a type of fluoride applied after dental cleanings to help strengthen teeth and prevent decay. Fluoride Varnish is the most effective form of topical anticavity adgents. It has been shown to stay on the teeth for up to fourteen days.
Sealants
This is used to fill in narrow grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned by brushing. In some cases, the tooth structure has fine grooves or pits which accumulate plaque, not because the person doesn’t brush, but because they’re too narrow to allow even one bristle into them. These will develop cavities over time, and you don’t want that. So the dentist will brush on a coating that seals the grooves and pits, making it possible to brush off all the plaque and keep your teeth healthy.
