How important is a great smile? Studies show that people who smile more have lower rates of depression than others. As you smile you send a message to your own brain that it is time to be happy. Other studies find that the first impression you make on others is best when you offer an open, attractive smile.

Patients today are more fortunate than at any other time in history. The spectrum of methods for creating dazzling smiles is large and still growing. Ivy Lane Dentistry offers traditional veneers, lumineers, bonding, and orthodontics. Sometimes a combination of treatments is the best way to achieve your best possible outcome. Bonding

Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to alter the alignment of the tooth, close gaps between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface of the tooth is roughened in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material adheres to the surface. Then the material itself is placed on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is shaped and polished to get a lustrous finish as a last step.

Veneers

Veneers are a porcelain facing placed on a tooth to change its color, straighten it or strengthen it. Veneers are highly aesthetic and can blend very naturally into a smile to become invisible. By veneering four to six anterior teeth, we can brighten and straighten teeth to create a dazzling smile.

Lumineers

Lumineers are a porcelain veneer which requires no removal of tooth material. This popular cosmetic procedure helps to create beautiful smiles by changing the colar and shape of the tooth. Four to six teeth need to be veneered to produce great results.

Whitening

This is the procedure of making teeth whiter, and therefore more attractive. Our office uses several methods: passive tray whitening and professional strength white strips. The tray method involves having impressions taken from which laboratory fabricated custom vinyl trays are made. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 3 hours, or overnight. The entire process takes 3-4 weeks of daily use. Three different strengths of gel may be used, however the higher the strength the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity.

Custom Whitening Trays

The doctors’ favorite method of teeth whitening is the use of custom made whitening trays. An exact model is made of the patient’s teeth and is used to make a thin, comfortable plastic tray that holds the whitening gel. The tray carries the whitening agent into the distinct nooks and crannies of an individual’s arch. It is the most cost effective method to get powerful whitening- remember, the agent is prescription strength so you get much more whitening power per dollar compared to over-the-counter methods.
